Celebrate Lent - Day 22
March 13, 2010 by Worship Director.
Today’s Scripture Matthew 15:33,34
His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough
bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”
“How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
Read Matthew Chapter 15
How Many Loaves Do You Have?
The magnitude of suffering in our world can cripple us into inaction. Our resources seem so limited. Our response so inadequate. We ask, “What can we do with so little in the face of such misery? What good will our little offering do?” Jesus’ answer is a question, “What do you have?”
In Xela, Guatemala, the women of Emanuel Presbyterian Church felt called to tithe and minister to their neighbors. They had little money but began to set aside every tenth scoop of beans, every tenth cup of rice and every tenth tortilla. They pooled their offerings and began to serve people in their community who were even more destitute. Soon others, lead by their example, contributed to the program and the church began a regular feeding program for those in need. God is responsible for the miracle, but we are called to do our part. Jesus still asks, “How many loaves do you have?”

Dear Father of All –
Burden my heart to share my loaves,
whatever that may be.
